Glitter & Glamour
Metallic & Specialty Effect Yarns
Our metallic and specialty effect yarns combine brilliant shine, an extensive color range, and striking visual effects with a soft, comfortable feel. This makes them ideal not only for decorative embroidery but also for applications worn directly against the skin, such as lingerie and intimate apparel.
A wide selection of metallic and effect yarn constructions provides exceptional creative freedom for premium embroidery and textile applications. In addition to our standard shade-card colors, both metallic film and yarn can be produced in custom colors upon request.
Available qualities include:
- Metallic Soft – specially developed for the Schiffli embroidery industry, offering excellent machine performance with a soft feel suitable for skin-contact applications
- Metallic Spaced – an elegant spaced-wrapped metallic yarn for sophisticated decorative embroidery
- Metallic Covered – a covered metallic effect yarn for premium textile applications
- Crystal Soft – transparent core wrapped with 100% polyester yarn
- Rainbow Soft – a soft specialty effect yarn designed for distinctive embroidery creations
The Look of Cotton
SPUN
Not every embroidery design calls for shine. In many applications, a natural matte finish is preferred—offering the appearance of cotton while retaining the dimensional stability and durability of polyester.
SPUN combines these advantages with a natural cotton-like appearance, reliable processing performance, and an elegant matte effect that pairs beautifully with the lustrous finish of Setafil yarns.
With a shade card featuring 114 colors, SPUN 76/2 offers an excellent selection for refined matte embroidery effects. Custom color matching is also available upon request to meet specific project requirements.
Available options:
- 114 standard shade-card colors
- Custom color matching available upon request
- Additional yarn counts available, including Ne 20/2 and Ne 60/2
For Refined Embroidery Outlines
Setafil Cord
Setafil Cord combines the proven performance of Setafil with a distinctive cord-like appearance. Created through a specialized twisting and drawing process, it delivers a refined, three-dimensional effect that adds depth and definition to embroidery.
It is particularly well suited for fine outlines, raised embroidery effects, and premium detailing where precision and a clean finish are essential.
Available options:
- dtex 180×2×3 – available undyed (raw) as well as in 114 standard shade-card colors, including white and black
- Custom color matching available upon request
Viscose
Orion
Orion is a lustrous filament yarn made from 100% viscose rayon. Renowned for its naturally silky appearance and soft sheen, viscose rayon has long been the classic choice for premium embroidery applications.
Today, viscose embroidery yarn is primarily used for greige (undyed) embroidery on cotton or viscose fabrics that are subsequently piece-dyed or further processed into finished garments. Orion is particularly well suited for applications where the embroidery and fabric are dyed together to achieve a perfectly coordinated result.
Available options:
- dtex 133×2 – available from stock in greige (undyed)
- Custom colors produced on request
- Ideal for greige embroidery on cotton and viscose fabrics
Matte & Lustrous Effects
Aerofil
Aerofil is a 100% textured polyester (PES) filament yarn designed to create soft, matte, and voluminous textile effects. When combined with lustrous yarns such as Setafil, it produces striking matte–shine contrasts and unique color effects that add depth and character to embroidery.
Its soft, full-bodied texture makes Aerofil particularly well suited for lingerie, women’s apparel, home textiles, and children’s clothing, where both visual appeal and a pleasant feel are important.
Available options:
- dtex 167/1 – available in greige (undyed); custom colors available to order
- dtex 900/1 – available in greige (undyed); custom colors available to order
Water-Soluble Sewing Thread
PVA
In guipure embroidery (also known as chemical lace or air embroidery), the embroidery is stitched onto a temporary base material that is dissolved or removed after the embroidery process. A water-soluble nonwoven backing is commonly used for this purpose and, in industrial production, is typically sewn together into continuous strips.
If conventional sewing thread is used to join these strips, it can remain in the finished embroidery after the backing is washed out, leading to unwanted residues and production issues. Our water-soluble PVA sewing thread provides a clean and reliable solution.
Key features:
- 100% PVA sewing thread made from polyvinyl alcohol
- Dissolves at low temperatures from 20°C (68°F)
- Leaves no residue after the water-soluble backing is washed out
- Available in Ne 40/2
- Additional yarn counts, including Ne 20/2, available on short notice
- Supplied on sewing cones (4,000 m) as well as industrial cones (2.5 kg)
Our product range offers the right solution for a wide variety of applications and production requirements

SPOOLS & CONES
Following the dyeing process, our yarns are rewound into a wide variety of spool and cone formats to meet the requirements of different production processes. This operation is carried out entirely in-house and forms an essential part of our final quality control.
Each year, we produce approximately 200 metric tons of embroidery bobbins for the embroidery industry, shipping them to customers around the world. For other textile applications, Schweninger supplies yarns on cones ranging from 250 g to 1.5 kg, ensuring the right package format for every production environment.

TWISTING
With state-of-the-art RATTI and ICBT twisting machines, Schweninger produces 100 tons of premium twisted yarns every month. Our portfolio includes polyester, viscose, polyamide, and metallic yarns, as well as tailor-made solutions designed to meet individual customer requirements.
All raw materials are carefully selected according to strict quality standards and inspected upon arrival. Further quality controls are performed throughout production and after every batch to ensure consistently outstanding quality.
